Sister Alban Hermes has spent 65 years of his life to be a religious Sinsinawa Dominican order, although the last three decades were a time of her life she was very happy.
Over the past 28 years, Hermès has worked with the Calumet City Resource Center, which operates a pantry area, the food provides about 80 to 90 families a week.
"The fact that I was with people who were like family to me, and we were able to operate food to those in need is something that I love," she said.
"We were able to meet the needs of others," said Hermes. "I think I had a successful life."
Life Calumet City came after a long career of teaching school in the community near Midwest before. After the southern suburbs She holds a Masters in Education at DePaul University and another Masters in parish at Loyola University.
But time Hermes with the resource center, and as a pastoral assistant in the parish of Our Lady of Knock 501 163rd Street, is nearing completion, as is retired.
Come first October, she will leave her job and move to get to their "parents", a retreat in southwestern Wisconsin by the church of the nuns retired.

"My health is not what it used to be," said Hermes. "It's time for me to retire."

But Hermes said she will miss the people she works with.
